Maku

Maku

A screen can create shelter, tranquillity, divide or define a space.
It’s an archetypical typology that doesn’t need much explanation in use: unfold it and experience what it does in the space.
Maku comes in both an opaque, wooden version, a textile covered and a translucent, washi version with a nod to the traditional Japanese ’Shoji’ screens and housing details in Northern Europe. The hinge is made in Japanese washi paper after traditional methods.
The hinge detail is inspired by the classical toy that magically flips around itself when turned.
